Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the results of a fully holistic, interdisciplinary proposal based on the following trinomial: music, art history and emotions in elementary and professional saxophone teaching. As reflected in the theoretical framework, arts and feelings have been associated with music throughout history and art helps us in the search for an interpretation of our feelings and emotions that we find so difficult to externalize. The task of investigating our emotions through improvisation and creativity was also undertaken as they relate to a particular song, study, piece or work and arts (scenic, visual, audiovisual or literary) to gain a greater insight into a repertoire. Triangulation was used to achieve the objectives and contrast the hypothesis through the interaction between the descriptive-comparative method, the quantitative statistical vision and qualitative research through video recordings of the participating students. In addition, six internationally-renowned composers and jazz artists have collaborated to reveal their concerns when working in the world of music. Mainly, the results we obtained throughout this teaching experience as can be seen, have been extremely positive at first sight, as the students have made it clear in the different blocks, emotions-arts, improvisation and public performing, that they are aware of the importance of receiving ongoing training at a technical-expressive level and interdisciplinary studies to better enjoy and perform music. This work also delves into different arts to connect with the emotions the artist seeks to convey during an improvisation or when interpreting a piece, work, study or song performance. Secondly, the contribution the video makes in allowing us to observe the evolution of the pupils in this sense: a significant change can be observed with the core idea that this didactic proposal is a fundamental part of the musician's training. In conclusion, it is unavoidable that education reflects the evolution of society, to the need for eternal motivation and teachers must be innovators if they are to educate and enhance the quality of their teaching and grow as educators in the demanding world of music education. When all is said and done, the results of this work during a student’s education will become apparent later on down the line when they become professional performers.
