Résumé

Diet plays a key role in the protection against oxidative stress-related diseases (cancer, cardiovascular disease). The objective of the present research was to evaluate the antioxidant effectiveness of an antioxidant-rich product, made from pigmented fruits (grapes, cherries and berries). For that, cell culture assays and human intervention studies were carried out. In the cell culture assays, the product effectively protected cellular lipids and DNA from oxidative damage. Nevertheless, this protective effect was not clearly observed in vivo. In a first study in elderly subjects, a 2-week supplementation period had no effect on the antioxidant status. A second intervention study in a group of younger subjects achieved a weak improvement in the antioxidant status, which was revealed by a decrease in serum lipid peroxidation.
