Doctor by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid with the thesis Fundamentos epistemologicos del paradigma de la complejidad informacion, comunicacion y autoorganizacion 1999. Supervised by Dr. Juan Gutiérrez Fernández.

Juan Miguel Aguado (Madrid, 1971) holds a PhD in Journalism and Communication at the Complutense University in Madrid (Spain) where he earned a National Excellence Award for the best graduate records by the Spanish Ministry of Education. MsC in Social Research by the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, Polish Academy of Sciences (Warsaw, Poland). Juan Miguel has lectured different subjects related to communication theory and technology in Wroclaw University (Poland), Catholic University of Murcia (Spain), and Northumbria University. He is full professor of communication at the University of Murcia (Spain), where he designs and launches in 2014 a pioneering Master Degree on Mobile Communication and Digital Media in cooperation with Cartagena’s Technical University. His research interests deal with the socio-cultural dimensions of technology and media, especially in the field of mobile technologies and new media, merging systems theory, complexity theories and cultural studies. He has been conducting pioneering research since 2004 on the impact mobile technology on media ecosystems and its relation to relevant societal and psychological transformations in identity management. Juan Miguel has published 13 books, including Communication and Cognition, 2003; E-Communication, 2004; Mobile Society: Culture, Technology and Identity, 2008, Technology and Social Complexity, 2010; Mobile Communication: Towards a New Digital Ecosystem, 2013 and Emerging Perspectives on the Mobile Content Evolution, 2015. His publications include as well more than 40 papers in refereed journals relevant to the field of communication and over 50 contributions to peer-reviewed edited volumes in the field of mobile communications and media. In may 2016 he is unanimously elected by the regional Parliament in Murcia as General Director of Radiotelevisión de la Región de Murcia (RTRM), the public media company for the Region of Murcia (South East Spain), which includes regional radio station Onda Regional de Murcia and coordinating regional TV station 7 TV Región de Murcia, and online content channels. He becomes member of the FORTA (Federation of Regional Public Service Media in Spain), which includes 13 regional public media companies all over the country. In June 2017 Juan Miguel is appointed as President of FORTA, developing different projects and strategic lines addressed to the enhancement of public regional broadcasting in Spain, including digital transformation. In 2019 he is designated as Spain's national coordinator for CIRCOM (The European Association of Regional Television), coordinating the participation of Spanish public television companies in 2019 Circom's Annual Conference in Serbia.
