Professor Martínez-Sánchez is currently Full Professor at the Department of Basic Psychology and Methodology at Murcia University, Spain. His primary research interest are associated with experimental psychology, with a strong emphasis on cognitive neuroscience of emotion. More specific interests include emotional regulation, expressions and identifications of emotions, and acoustical analysis of emotional speech prosody. In addition to publishing over 100 articles in journals, books, and conference proceedings, he has written books and edited. Featuring among other projects is the speech and voice analysis, a promising tool for the monitoring non-invasive diagnostic technique for the early detection of Alzheimer's Disease. This Project falls within the research line that assumes speech and language contain a set of regularities and specific patterns that may be registered through explicit rules and acoustic models. The use of automatic speech analysis has shown it to be a noninvasive, valid and reliable technique for assessing the cognitive state of Alzheimer's patients quickly, and with minimal discomfort. At the same time, this procedure can be used as part of remote monitoring methods for screening and monitoring of disease progression.
