Abstract

Geology in secondary education has faced many difficulties when it comes to teaching in the classroom with a holistic, contextualized and applicable approach for students. Currently, there is a growing commitment from teachers to implement innovative teaching methods that place students as the active subjects of their learning. The Educational Escape Room (EER) is a tool within Game-Based Learning that consists of designing challenges and puzzles within a theme where theoretical contents are dynamically addressed. In this approach, students must solve a series of tests within 45 minutes and find the final key with which they will be able to leave the classroom. The present work consists of designing an analogical EER proposal on earthquakes and implementing it as an assessment instrument within a didactic unit for students in the 4th year of ESO (Compulsory Secondary Education, in its Spanish acronym).
