Zusammenfassung

In the aftermath of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on the 24th of February 2022, the European Union has adopted large-scale and unprecedented sanctions against Russia. Among the sanctions imposed, the European Union has shielded itself against Russian disinformation by blocking the Russian broadcasting channels Russia Today and Sputnik. The decision represents an interference in the right to freedom of expression. This article critically analyzes the Judgment of the General Court of the European Union (Grand Chamber) of 27 July 2022, T-125/22, RT France v. Council, which has confirmed the legitimacy of the measure adopted by the Council, validating the blocking of the Russian channels, according with the freedom of expression in Europe.
