Abstract

The emergence of Modernity in the West came witha shiny promise of hegemony for critical thought, whicheventually turned into a gradual estrangement between highand low culture. This logic has ended up by naturalising therise of institutions as sites of a power that kept away fromthe people, and from the public space seen as a marginalplace. In the last decades, however, the public space hasbeen vindicated by cultural actions that reinstate people aslegitimate users of those spaces, and as essential actorswithin those endeavours. This project inhabits this change of paradigm. Wehave selected three neighbourhoods as case-studies andlocation for our actions: one in the capital city of Spain, another in the capital city of Region de Murcia, and athird in the village of Gata de Gorgos, Alicante. One ofour final goals is a comparison between these threedifferent neighbourhoods, assuming as a initial premisethat collaborative art’s theory and practice are constantlyinterconnected.
