Abstract

Results of a quantitative research are socialized, aimed at establishing the conceptions around who they were the most relevant historical figures of his “country”, according to the opinion of a group of migrant students (n = 56) among the 15 to 17 year of age enrolled in the 4th year of Compulsory Secondary education in public, private and concerted educational institutions in the city of Murcia (Spain). With this, the aim was to establish whether the historical references evoked by migrant students were aligned with the national references of their Spanish classmates (n = 648), or if, on the contrary, they were based on national parameters linked to their countries of origin. Through a comparison between the exercises developed, four forms of historical evocation were identified, which show the complexity that defines the process of construction of historical identity in multicultural contexts; contexts that are paradoxically strongly mediated by traditional and exemplary criteria linked to patriotic and nationalist principles.
