Gender, Ideology and Conceptual Metaphors: Women and the Source Domain of the Hunt

Resum
Como proceso cognitivo, el razonamiento metafórico es inevitable, pero eso no quiere decir que este sea necesariamente inocente o neutral. Como es bien sabido, los dominios conceptuales del amor y el sexo han sido ampliamente estudiados por la lingüística cognitiva. No obstante, un dominio fuente que merece una mayor atención desde una perspectiva ideológica y de género es el dominio de la caza. A través de un enfoque que combina la lingüística cognitiva y el análisis crítico del discurso, este artículo tiene como objetivo examinar el amor, la seducción y la búsqueda de pareja o marido a través de metáforas de caza, haciendo hincapié en la representación discursiva de las mujeres y la caza. En los textos estudiados, todos ellos en lengua inglesa, se ha podido observar cómo las metáforas conceptualeselamor/laseducción/labúsquedadeparejaomaridoesunacaza se activan por medio de expresiones lingüístico-metafóricas que utilizan términos como cazar, perseguir, capturar, atrapar (hunt, chase, pursue, catch, capture, trap), etc. En relación con la dimensión ideológica de las metáforas, hemos constatado cómo estas constituyen un poderoso instrumento de transmisión de creencias, valores y concepciones dominantes de la masculinidad y la feminidad. En los textos objeto de estudio se han podido detectar ideologías de género que asignan al varón una posición socialmente privilegiada, así como otras ideologías sexistas subyacentes que sustentan y refuerzan el dominio masculino y la sumisión femenina.
