Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyse the main studies about the effects of those programs that have been implemented in school contexts so as to improve the health of children and teenagers through sport. For this purpose, a bibliographic review was carried out on Web of Science, SPORTDiscus, Scopus and Dialnet. Sixteen papers, about five programmes, were included: Child and Adolescent Trial for Cardiovascular Health (3 papers), Go for Health (3 papers), Middle School Physical Activity and Nutrition (2 papers), Sports, Play, and Active Recreation for Kids (3 papers), Conceptual Physical Education (2 papers) and Lifestyle Education for Activity Program (3 papers). Results showed the implementation of those programs that have been developed in the last stage of primary education and the first stage of second education. Most of them have lasted from 2 to 3 years, despite other programs whose last is reduced to one academic year have been included too. The methodology used in order to assess physical activity has mainly been quantitative, through questionnaires and pedometers. Finally, the results regarding intervention programs have shown how education-in-health programs can decrease the amount of sedentary students through strategies that raise healthy physical activity.
