Abstract

The present paper focuses on the notion of reflection during the practicum from a teacher¿s perspective. In the first part, the origins of the reflective approach in language teacher education are described, the concept of reflection is clearly outlined and the reasons for its inclusion in pre-service teacher education programmes are stated. The second part briefly presents the results of an empirical study which analysed the process of reflection of a group of future primary school teachers of English during their first stages of ¿hands-on¿experience.The low level of reflection perceived in the study together with some recommendations found in the relevant literature in this field lead us to suggest a set of structural and methodological measures aimed at explicitly encouraging reflection among our students as a useful tool during their practicum.
