Los usos creativos de las UFimplicaciones para su traducción (inglés-español)

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to explore the original and new uses that speakers make of already existing phraseological combinations, which are, therefore, recognized by the community and compiled in reference handbooks. Most of the times, the peculiarities of these uses imply difficulties in the translation of those units. Aiming to discover the causes of these problems, we analyze the creative potential of the PUs using as a starting point the defining properties of phraseology (polilexicality, idiomaticity and fixedness). Since not only the causes, but also the consequences of the creative changes are to be taken into account when it comes to translate any of these new phraseological uses, we illustrate the main effects produced in these cases by underlining the aspects to consider in the process of translating creatively modified PUs.
