José A. Ruipérez Valiente is a permanent faculty member in the Department of Information and Communications Engineering at the University of Murcia, project manager of CyberDataLab, and co-founder of the spin-off SCORPION Cybertech. He holds a degree in Telecommunication Systems Engineering from UCAM, as well as an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Telematics Engineering from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, where he received the Extraordinary Award for excellence in his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral studies. He completed his doctoral research at IMDEA Networks, including research stays at MIT and the University of Edinburgh. He later worked as a postdoctoral researcher in three different MIT laboratories and as a lecturer at Complutense University of Madrid, in addition to holding positions in several companies. His career combines research, knowledge transfer, and management in areas such as educational technology, artificial intelligence, and cyber defense. He has participated in 34 R&D projects and contracts with total funding exceeding €9 million. He has served as the University of Murcia’s Principal Investigator in European Defence Fund projects such as CITADEL Range (€60M) and EUCINF (€40M), as well as in the development of the COBRA cybersecurity training platform for the Spanish Joint Cyberspace Command. In research, he was listed in Stanford University’s ranking of the top 2% most influential scientists worldwide. He is the co-author of 150 publications, including 79 journal articles (40 Q1 and 24 Q2), and has received more than 4,450 citations, with an h-index of 35. In teaching, he has delivered courses related to AI, computing, data science, and educational technology. He has co-supervised 29 undergraduate theses, 12 master’s theses, and 4 completed doctoral dissertations, with 8 more currently in progress. His work has been recognized with numerous distinctions, including the SCIE-FBBVA National Computer Science Award for Young Researchers, competitive fellowships such as Juan de la Cierva and the Humboldt Research Fellowship, and honors such as “Murciano del Año.”
