Doctor by the Universidad de Murcia with the thesis Estudio de la infección experimental con "toxoplasma gondii"en la perdiz roja("alectoris rufa") 2000. Supervised by Dr. Francisco Domingo Alonso de Vega, Dr. Juana María Ortíz Sánchez.
I hold a Degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Murcia (1990). From 1992 to 2000, I worked as a Veterinary Inspector of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia (Spain). I have been a tenured civil servant since 1995, after obtaining the position through a competitive examination. I earned my PhD in December 2000. From October 2000 to January 2008, I served as a full-time Associate Professor in the Department of Animal Health at the University of Murcia. After obtaining National Accreditation, I was appointed as Associate Professor in 2008, and since then I have developed my teaching and research activity in the same department within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Since March 2024, I have held the position of Full Professor in the Department of Animal Health at the University of Murcia. Between the academic years 2009-2010 and 2010-2011, I coordinated the Master’s Degree Programme Wildlife Management and Health (University of Murcia), and later served as coordinator of the Master’s in Wildlife Management from 2015–2016 to 2022–2023. I have supervised 11 PhD theses and 65 master’s and bachelor’s dissertations. My main line of research focuses on diseases affecting wildlife, with special emphasis on the wildlife-domestic animal-human interface. I have participated as a researcher in six nationally funded competitive projects (refs. AGL2002-02916, FAU2008-00017-C02-00, AGL2008-01056/GAN, CGL2012-40043-C02-01, CGL2017-89905-R, AGL2013-46981-R) and one COST Action (EurNegVet TD1303 COST), mostly addressing the epidemiology of shared diseases between domestic and wild species. I was Principal Investigator of the Fundación Séneca project 20952/PI/18, titled “Epidemiological role of the red fox as a carrier of zoonotic agents and other pathogens shared with domestic carnivores in anthropogenic semi-arid Mediterranean environments” (2019-2022). This project has so far produced eight JCR-indexed publications and one completed PhD thesis. To date, I have authored 98 JCR articles, including 51 published in Q1 journals (13 in the first decile) and 29 in Q2 journals. My contributions to research transfer are reflected in 30 contracts with public administrations and private entities, in 18 of which I acted as principal investigator. In addition, I have published six book chapters and 22 outreach papers.
