Abstract

The present paper pretends to illustrate about an international private law millenary institution of the Mediterranean: the Consolat de Mar. This is the name of two institutions, on the one hand, a codex of the low Middle Ages that regulated the comercial relations between Mediterranean navigants, a truly code of private international law used since XIII century. On the other hand, Consolats de Mar were the institutions of conflict resolution that in these times resolved the disputes relating sea facts in numerous Mediterranean seaports, with the procedure established on the codex of the same name. The objective of the text is to show the large history of private international law and, consequently, the relevance of the subject and the interest of its study and codification.
