Resumen

Semen collection in bucks is usually performed using a female as a sexual stimulus, which has to cope with the actions derived from the pre-breeding behavior of the males of this species, in addition to being subjected to repeated hormone injections for her continuous coming out in heat. In other species, this collection can be done using a male or an inanimate object as a lure. The objective of this work was to test if the use of another male of the same breed and a dummy were effective in semen extraction in caprine, evaluating if the males were able to ejaculate, their reaction time and seminal quality when presented with a dummy in the shape of a female or another male as a sexual stimulus. The averages thus obtained were compared with those obtained when a female was used as a decoy. No significant differences were observed with the use of another male, neither in behavior nor in seminal quality, but there was a lower sexual arousal when using the dummy, which resulted in a lower number of males mounting and ejaculating on it (3 out 10), higher reaction time (17,6 s vs. 51,6 s) and significantly lower averages in the parameters of ejaculate volume (1,15 ml vs. 0,86 ml) and sperm concentration (2552x106 vs. 1967x106). This work can serve as a preliminary trial, and it should be tested whether this technique can be improved by adding to the dummy some biological fluid that increases the arousal of the bucks
