Resumo

This editorial article introduces the special section titled "Artificial Intelligence in Assessment and Learning Personalization." The conclusions of the seven selected studies are presented and contrasted with recent research. This article offers five key contributions. First, it showcases advances in the integration of adaptive learning with generative artificial intelligence for learning personalization. Next, the educational use of chatbots is explored, highlighting their ability to facilitate more dynamic learning experiences tailored to students' needs. Third, the use of machine learning in creating predictive models that support formative decision-making is analyzed. Subsequently, the challenges and opportunities presented by intelligent tutoring systems are discussed, particularly in providing immediate feedback and offering recommendations for designing and adjusting personalized learning pathways. Finally, practical recommendations and reflections are shared regarding ethical and pedagogical challenges, the dependence on artificial intelligence, and some of the challenges faced by educational research.
