Abstract

The holotype of Abax sexualis Fairmaire, 1881 has been studied from the only specimen collected by Fairmaire and its synonymy with Abax pyrenaeus spp. pyrenaeus Dejean, 1828 is established. The typical series of Abax pyrenaeus v. montserratensis Mas de Xaxars, 1915 has been located, and its consideration as a variety of the typical subspecies is reaffirmed. Likewise, the lectotype ♂ and the parallelectotypes ♂ and ♀ are designated. All specimens of both taxa are deposited in the collection of the Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona.
