Abstract

Nowadays, river restoration represents one of the main management objectives in industrialised countries. This fact is due to the increasing concern about the widespread and advanced degradation of fluvial ecosystems and the major knowledge of riparian ecosystem services and resources that riparia may offer to the society. On this context, it has been executed several actions by Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura in the Segura river, in two stretches, “El Caño” and “El Jarral”, located in Abaran. These restorations need to be monitored and evaluated in order to improve effectiveness of future projects. This assessment has been done taking into account several elements: potential riparian vegetation, project design, planned and executed actions, preo-perational and post-operational status. In the final evaluation have been used ecological and socioeconomic indicators in order to determine the real success of the restoration project.
