Abstract

In this artice we will examine the discourse that, on the occasion of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, VOX and Unidas Podemos parties carried out in the Spanish Congress of Deputies in order to explain their position on this issue. To do so, we will carry out a qualitative analysis of certain discursive elements of both formations, in order to try to show whether they present elements that could be considered populist in nature, despite being located at opposite ends of the ideological spectrum. Thus, we will try to demonstrate that most of the variables defended by Charaudeau are found in both discourses and that, therefore, populism cannot be ascribed to a specific ideology, since its discursive characteristics can be found represented in parties with antagonistic ideologies.
