Abstract

The process of religious affirmation within the Spanish Monarchy during the 16th century had various consequences, one of which was the outburst of peasant rebellions in the high lands. This article aims to compare the development of these rebellions not only in the Iberian Peninsula(in Valencia and Grenade), but also within the Americas (in New Galicia and Peru). Our purpose is to try to understand the mechanisms of territorial control and its political and legal projections in the Spanish Monarchy. In the same way, this analysis will show how to interpret each one of these phenomena in their social and cultural context, which will allow us to understand better a Monarchy founded in religious conflict.
