Resumo

This research aims to expose a holistic view of the tangible and intangible underground heritage in Oliveirade Frades and Aguiar da Beira, Portugal, as well as to understand the involvement and empowerment ofthe local community in the context of the megalithic tourist route "Rota do Megalitismo da Região ViseuDão Lafões e Sever do Vouga". It was carried out in the framework of the COST Action CA18110"Underground Built Heritage as a Catalyser for Community Valorisation" (Underground4value), whosemain objective is to create a network of experts to promote sustainable approaches for the conservation ofunderground heritage in urban and rural areas.Preliminary results show that the configuration of the cultural route has an excellent technical design thatintegrates 26 monuments, six of which are national monuments. Nevertheless, attempts to involve the localcommunity by the project planners into the process of creating the route are so far limited. Even so, keyagents of Oliveira de Frades and Aguiar da Beira value positively the creation of the route as a link between municipalities, considering it as an opportunity to value not only the megalithic heritage but also the restof the heritage of the territories.
