Abstract

This study was born from the need to know and to analyze how women have contributed to the elabora-tion of a new thought about motherhood and the figure of the mother. Motherhood, understood as a so-cial construction, „kidnaps“ the maternal experience (Rich, 1976) and acts under the norms and needsof the dominant hegemonic group, eliminating the subjectivity of the mother. However, in the literaryfield and especially in recent years, it is possible to find numerous texts elaborated from a matrifocalperspective, that is, a narrative that emerges from the maternal subjectivity (Hirsch, 1989; Daly andReddy, 1991). Since the beginning of the 21st century, in Italy, there has been an increase in novels thatpresent the maternal experience from a matrifocal perspective, such as those we will analyze in thispaper: Non dire madre (2009), by Dora Albanese and Due partite (2006), by Cristina Comencini.
