Resumen
Medial patellar luxation is a congenital pathology that affects the pelvic limb of toy and miniature breeds of dog, which in recent years has seen an increase in its incidence in large breeds. The most frequent surgical techniques have been based on the deepening of the trochlear groove and alignment with the tibial tuberosity, obtaining suboptimal results, especially in cases with advanced osteoarthrosis or excessive femorotibial deformities. Therefore, this study aims to highlight the utilities and limitations of the trochlear groove prosthesis (PGR KYON®), on its own and in combination with femoral osteotomies, compared to other more commonly used techniques, based on 2 clinical cases of complex medial patella dislocation. Both cases presented osteoarthrosis associated with femoral varus deformity which were resolved surgically with different techniques depending on the age and size of the patients. The trochlear groove prosthesis was presented as a resolutive technique in both cases, however, cases should be carefully selected and its limitations, especially associated with resolution of femoral angular deformities, should be taken into account.
