Resumen

The main objective of this research is to determine the relationship between the perception of success in Physical Education lessons and regular physical activity in adolescents of Southeast Spain, as well as the differences which exist in relation to gender. The study uses a sample of 583 subjects aged between 14 and 18 years old from different public high schools of the Region of Murcia. A relationship among the different variables has been identified. The results show that men carry out more physical-sports practice than women, both in minutes and METs per week. Our results point out that levels of task orientation are higher to those of ego orientation for both genders. Additionally, both levels of task orientation and levels of ego orientation are significantly higher for men than for women. The perception of success in physical activity is related positive and importantly with the level of physical activity of adolescents. However, there are only significant increases of physical activity levels depending on the low, medium or high level obtained in women related to task orientation.
