Abstract
The first general strike in the mining area of Cartagena-La Unión was called on 3 March 1916, driven by the negative circumstances resulting from World War I. The conflict offered a triple interpretation: political, economic and social. It was a violent conflict that brought to the fore the defence of the established order, making use of institutional violence and the manipulation of information.
