Abstract

The economic growth in Cartagena at the end of the 19th century boosted the industry and the change of societyto a moment of great splendor. The bourgeoisie demanded new objects for the construction and decoration oftheir homes. This situation generated the appearance of two factories dedicated to the production of earthenware, which became one of the most important in Spain. Due to the importance of this production in the economy ofCartagena and its role in modernist decoration, it is of great interest to protect the remains of both factories thatare still preserved near the city.
