Abstract
Cleft palate is a malformation whose incidence rate is approximately 1:1000 live births in caucasian race, being more frequent in oriental races and less frequent in black race. This malformation, which is caused by a fusion defect in primitive facial structures, has been deeply studied in different moments through historv. Patients present disturbs in phonation, swallowing, psychological, aesthetics and occlusion, apart from many dental anomalies. Treatment should be multidisciplinar and it has to include different dental specialists.
