Resumen

The foundation in 1943 of the Academia General del Aire in San Javier (Murcia, Spain), and the paternalistic policy of military housing developed during the autarchy era provided the keys for the creation of the Ciudad del Aire in Santiago de la Ribera. This Doctoral Thesis has had as its objective the study of said military colony from the field of Art History and Cultural Heritage, a vision that provides a new management tool for a heritage of the twentieth century that is undervalued and in constant change. For this purpose, all the data related to the Ciudad del Aire, from its beggining until the real situation, has been collected and put together with the in situ study of it, we have provided theories that justify its formal structure. For this, the research work has focused on the compilation of the archival documents that were housed in the various military institutions together with the urban planning tools of the San Javier City Council and regulations of the Patronato, added to the current evaluation of the property and the study bibliography of the Colony and its context. A neighborhood of 376,820 m2 that was projected as a block in the middle of the autarchic period following the urban models of Ciudad Jardín, neighborhood unit and radburn block to adapt to the demands imposed by the Patronato de Casas del Ramo del Aire and the requirements of the professional society that housed. An architectural test field that adapted to the American Way Of Life, a symbol of maximum comfort while resorting to Mediterranean forms that adapted to the environment of the Mar Menor, the setting for this Colony. The structural analysis resulting from this project, together with the search for the social meaning of a military colony and its repercussion on its formal configuration, will create the bases to be able to examine the Ciudad del Aire from the field of cultural management, typifying it as Heritage of the XX Century and Historical Urban Landscape, its assessment following the criteria of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage of the Región de Murcia resulting in Heritage Cataloged for its Cultural Relevance, the risks and threats that lie in, and mark some lines of action in accordance with the new stipulated framework. To complete this project, and as a basic management tool that compiles all the aspects studied, a Catalog of all the buildings in the Colony was drawn up, which will dump and order the data corresponding to each building, as well as the limit parameters of modification of each one, this Catalog is a photograph of the real state of the Residential Zone before the rehabilitation works that, as planned, will take place in a short period of time.
