Abstract

In the present research the trend and the characteristics of the frosts in different geographical areas of the Segura Hydrographic Demarcation (DHS) are analyzed, with the objective of analyzing the changes experienced in the average number of freezing days per year (ANFDs) and to explain the atmospheric casuistry in its variations... The study is carried out by means of the analysis of daily data of minimum temperature of twenty meteorological observatories of the area of study, with a time series of eight decades until the present (1933‐2016). The representation of the geographical areas of study ranges from places in the “heart” of the Segura`s mountain, over 1,200 m. (Valle del Zumeta), southern extreme mountainous of the province of Albacete (Riopar), Altiplano de Murcia, Vega Alta del Segura (Calasparra‐Cieza), Murcia`s Metropolitan Area, Guadalentín Valley, and the Campo de Cartagena. The results obtained will be of great use for the future agricultural planning of the study area, especially in those sectors where horticulture and intensive fruit trees are subject to the periodic influx of frost episodes.
