Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to assess how coaches who are specialists in combined events organize the training of their athletes from under-14 to over-23 age groups for both males and females. The sample included 15 coaches who were specialists in training combined-event athletes. The study's design was selective. The variables that were studied include: age, athletic and academic education, experience as a coach, hours of dedication to coaching, training periodization, age groups, and perception of the norms. A descriptive and inferential analysis was done. Results demonstrate that the percentage of work dedicated to each training component presents a similar distribution in all age groups. The higher the age group, the lower the percentage of technical work and the higher the percentage of strength and speed work. For the percentage dedicated to each event, for all age groups and both genders, the highest work percentage is found in running events (sprints and hurdles) while the lowest percentage of work is spent on throwing events. Results obtained indicate that in the formative process for combined events, coaches tend to specialize their athletes in running events (sprints and hurdles).
