Resumen

Currently, most existing companies worldwide are familiar and are engaged in a necessary and continuous processof international expansion. Despite this fact, there isn’t extensive research about the relationship between theinternationalization of family business and its performance. This study conducted on a sample of 203 family andnon-family companies aims to bridge that gap. The results reveal that the fact that a company has its property inthe hands of a family positively affects the performance and the process of internationalization. However, it is notsignificant for the performance originated due to internationalization. Therefore, family businesses are able tosuccessfully face the process of international expansion, but this does not influence the achievement of their results.
