Resumen

This research shows estimates of diesel price elasticity for freight road transportation in European Union. Weevaluate road freight transport operations in terms of Tons-Kilometer. Our explanatory variables include GrossDomestic Product as a measure of economic activity, and diesel price. To calculate the elasticities, a theoreticalmodel estimated by panel cointegration techniques was used. All data are quarterly and cover the period 2000:I2015:IV from 3 European countries. This modelling will allow us to estimate the elasticities with respect to the dieselprice, both in the short and long term. Values for the price elasticity indicate that road freight transport has got aninelastic demand. These results have relevant implications in light of policies that aim to reduce energy consumptionand greenhouse gas emissions from heavy-duty vehicles.
