Abstract

This paper presents the preliminary results established after the study of the marble materials recovered from the Roman villa of La Majona, Research carried out in recent years confirms the existence of archaeological structures attributable to the 1st century AD, up to almost the beginning of the 6th century. Archaeological work has made it possible to document important finds related to the decorative program, including a male bust-portrait from the Late Severe period carved in local marble, together with important volumes of white and colour marble from the quarries of the Estremoz Anticline and Beja, used in the wall cladding of the oecus, whose articulation and chromatic combination accurately refer to models widespread in the Roman West between the 3rd and 5th centuries AD.
