Abstract

The triple tonguing is considered too complex to be played on the clarinet. Therefore, the objective is to use ICT to improve the quality of the triple tonguing by conducting a pilot test with 13 participants with at least the Certificate of Professional Clarinet Teaching. 2 technical exercises were recorded on two occasions. The first recording was an initial test to know the knowledge of the triple tonguing in each participant and the second one analyzed the improvement experienced after using ICT. Between each recording, participants were given 11 exercises to work the technique for 6 weeks. The technological tools used were: Audacity (to make the recordings), ZyMi (free metronome for the study of the 11 exercises and for the 2 exercises of the recordings), Sibelius7 (to write the exercises) and Sonic Visualiser (to observe the evolution objective of the technique through the spectrograms that showed the defects when performing the exercises). After listening to the recordings and analyzing the colors and shapes resulting from the spectrograms in Sonic Visualiser, it was observed that in the first recording the quality of the triple tonguing was poor in 9 of the participants. In the last recording, everyone managed to do the two exercises with great quality in sound, articulation and rhythm in all registers. It can be concluded that the use of ICT was essential for the participants to improve tempo stability with ZyMi, loudness and articulation by using the auditory and visual sense together in the Sonic Visualiser spectrograms.
