Abstract

Therapeutic theatre is an interdisciplinary work that combines therapy and theatre; i.e., healing and fictional, artistic, creative and symbolic representation. Therapeutic theatre contributes to cure and heal mental diseases and situations involving stress or mental conflict, whether for an individual or for a group. This is a tool with many and varied resources to improve the client/patient’s quality of life. This study is focused on three of the essential qualities of therapeutic theatre, which are common to theatre and therapy and –in our opinion– to any curative, creative and educational act as well: presence, intention, and accompaniment. Three qualities that prevail in an act in which a person offers help to another – curative, creative or educational help – by means of a ceremony based on listening and love. The ethical, moral, existential and deontological principles prevailing in the bond between the healer and the client, the actor and the spectator, and the teacher and the student are quite similar: dedication, humility, respect and commitment
