Résumé

Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive observational study. Randomly and during a continuous period of time, we proceeded to register the degree of completion of the five moments of hand hygiene. Variables associated to the time of hand hygiene realization were collected: professional who performs it, units / services assistance, use of gloves and consumption of hydro alcoholic solution. Results: 137 professionals participated (41 doc-tors, 66 nurses and 30 nursing auxiliaries). Overall compliance with the indications of the five moments was 42.02%. This result varies depending on the variables use of gloves, professional who performs hand hygiene and area or service where they perform it. Nursing professionals are those who achieve a higher percentage of compliance. Conclusions: The degree of compliance of the five moments for the hygiene of hands of the WHO in the University General Hospital studied is far below the ideal value. It is necessary to implement measures of educational intervention that improve the compliance of the technique to increase the quality of care and patient safety.
