Laburpena

The purpose of this study is to make an approach to the essential role of children as changemakers in the city of Murcia. By our understanding, children are easily adaptable to their closest environment and we believe that education is one of the best features to generate a lifestyle based on a transport prototype according to a trend towards sustainable mobility. Therefore, we also consider relevant to take into account the leading role of parents, bicycle users, activists and public officials in the education of “our children” to facilitate that change. Thus, to do this we have based on this research in a fieldwork accomplished from a review of personal experiences and an exploration of the pro-bicycle environment of the city of Murcia. We have counted on people who have used the bicycle for their urban trips and now face the dilemma of leaving their children to use it to perform activities of daily life, such as the everyday trip to school. Through the creation of participatory spaces, following Tonucci, we observe how different families face the fear of the city, which has expelled children from the streets, delimiting their autonomy in urban areas.
