Abstract

The double tonguing is an unusual technique in the clarinet, as it consists of playingchopped notes at high speed and it offers resistance by having to vibrate the reed toproduce the sound. The objective of this study is to demonstrate that the techniquecan be interpreted at high speeds thanks to ICT. A sample was collected throughnetworks with 13 clarinetists with a minimum level of Professional Degree. An initialtest of 2 exercises was performed using Audacity. This was repeated after 8 weeks ofstudy to check if there was evolution. During these weeks, the participants studied29 exercises using ZyMi and Sibelius7. Quality was maintained by examining thespectrograms obtained in Sonic Visualiser. The result obtained indicates that thespeeds of the first recording were very low due to the complexity of the technique. They found problems in the syllabic combination “TA-KA” and in the emission of theair and attack of the notes. In the last recording, 5 clarinetists managed to double theinitial speeds and 4 tripled them. Participants 3 and 5 tripled the speed in the firstand doubled it in the second, while participant 13 rose from black equal to 13 to 105 in the first and to 85 in the second, with very little study time. Finally, it is concludedthat the increase in tempo in this technique is possible using ICT because it allows tomeasure exactly how much the speed increases and with what quality the exercisesare performed.
