Abstract

Currently, clarinetists don’t often use multiple articulation because it is consideredtoo complex and unnecessary to play the existing repertoire. The objective is to prove,through Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), that multiple articulationis useful to interpret the clarinet repertoire of different groups. For this, a bibliographysearch was carried out in Dialnet and Google Scholar where the maximum speed ofthe simple tonguing of a professional clarinetist with a high domain of the instrumentwas indicated approximately. The search string “Clarinet AND multiple articulationAND TIC” was mainly used. In addition, a repertoire was searched in the InternationalMusic Score Library Project (IMSLP) that included fragments with notes articulatedat high speed. For those works that didn’t have metronomic indications, YouTube andSpotify were used to find at least 7 recordings of each work and, thus, measure thespeeds reached. For this, it was used the ZyMi’s button named “TAP Tempo”. After thereview, 52 works were obtained, of which 24 didn’t indicate the tempo. Therefore, it was measured the speed of 168 videos of quality groupings where it was observedthat the speeds were very high, higher than those of the scientific evidence. As aconclusión, it can be said that the multiple articulation is useful for any instrumentsuch as the clarinet. With the TIC it has been clearly shown that the speeds of theselected passages, on many occasions, are too high to be performed with simpletonguing and this technique would help their interpretation.
