Abstract

The Region of Murcia is one of the Communities with the highest proportion of immigrant population in the last years, constituted mainly by the groups of Latin America, Morocco and Eastern European countries. This phenomenon is one of the factors that have most influenced the current structure of the city of Murcia and its metropolitan area. This study tries to evaluate the current structure of the City of Murcia and its metropolitan area according to the origin of immigrant groups. In order to do this, it analyzes the relationship between the structure of the population entities and the residential segregation in the year 2015 according to their origin. As variables of study included in its geographic proximity, the population characteristics such as educational level, demographic structure and indicators related to housing. In order to analyze the urban distribution and characterize residential segregation of the foreign population in the municipality of Murcia have been used the Location Coefficient and the rates of segregation, isolation and Delta. The relationship between study variables and immigration has been estimated from a mixed linear regression model. There has been evidence of a prominent immigrant movement from countries of African and American origin.
