Resumen
Today’s societies have become multicultural societies in which coexistence becomes sometimes conflictive. In this paper we claim that the best way to solve this issue, while training free, supportive and tolerant citizens, is to promote an education for tolerance. After approaching the current concept of what we understand as tolerance, specifying its characteristics, fundamental aspects and limits, we advocate the use of literature as an instrument for teaching this civic virtue. To do this, as an example, we have analysed the novel Monsieur Linh and His Child by Philippe Claudel (2005).
