Resumen
The main objective of this study is to study the relationship between mental health indicators (depression, stress and anxiety) and age in soccer players. Specifically, it is intended to determine the relationship between age and depression, age and anxiety and age and stress. The participants were 74 soccer players, with a mean age of 19.59 years (±4.74); with an interval between 13 and 33 years. The sample was divided into 3 age groups: 13 to 16 years old, 17 to 20 years old, and 21 to 33 years old. To evaluate mental health indicators, the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) was used. A descriptive analysis of the variables and a Spearman's Rho correlation analysis and one-factor ANOVA were performed using post-hoc contrasts. The results indicate that the scores on depression, anxiety and stress of the players were higher in the group of 17 to 20 years old, and lower in the young group. Specifically, the level of depression was significantly higher in the 17–20-year-old group compared to the 13–16-year-old group. The transition from competition categories at an early age to categories of greater competitive relevance could be explaining, in part, these results, and therefore points to the importance of psychological counseling aimed at moderating the emotional and psychological impact of the transition from one category to another. higher level.
