Zusammenfassung

The management of the pandemic in countries such as China has led some analysts, and parts of the Western population in general, to question the superiority of authoritarian systems over democratic ones when it comes to responding to crises and emergencies. The debate intensified during the worst moments of confinement, when Asia had already overcome the first wave and severe restrictions on individual freedoms were being implemented in Europe. In this article, we will try to reflect on and respond to the challenges of democratic societies, analyse the machinery that has been set in motion through social networks and big data, as well as the weight that micromanagement and technology are gaining in this work.
