Resumen

The main outcrop of prehnite in the Cehegin ore district appears in Coloso de San Antonio, where there are also important magnetite ores associated with highly altered basic rocks. Prehnite occurs as spherical nodules cemented by clay or carbonate minerals and in small veins that cross-cut the ophitic host rocks. High-quality prehnite, associated with chlorite, pyroxene and amphibolites was collected in this outcrop (Fe2O3 1.57-4.05%). An optical, chemical, thermal and X-ray study of six prehnite samples is presented. In these samples the replacement Si/Al and Al/Fe3+ is very small and the cell parameters are nearly constant. Mineralogical compositions of two characteristic prehnites from this outcrop are presented.-P.Br.
