Abstract

Sex pre-selection of offspring based on the separation of X and Y sperm cells by flow cytometry is an emerging biotechnology in the canine species. The development and optimization of this biotechnology efficiency, combined with other biotechnologies already used in this species, such as seminal cryopreservation and artificial insemination, would contribute to the improvement of breeding programs. We review various aspects on which this biotechnology is based, as well as the current situation and limitations in the canine species.
