Résumé

Introduction. The ALPHA-Fitness battery (AFB) assesses both the initial level and the progress of children and adolescents after working on the Healthy Physical Fitness Content block (HPF). Muscle flexibility is a basic component of HPF, which can contribute to increased physical performance in adolescents. The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of hamstring extensibility on physical performance in High School students. Method. A cross-sectional design was used to determine the effect of the level of extensibility on the HPF assessed by AFB. A total of 50 High School students participated in the present study. A Conglomerate test was applied to classify hamstring extensibility into high and low level. The Spearman test was used to study the possible existence of correlation between flexibility and performance in the AFB. Results. When analyzing the differences between the two groups, low and high extensibility, no statistically significant differences were found in any of the measures of AFB (p> 0.05). However, students with low extensibility obtain greater distance in the jump than students with low extensibility (204.2 cm vs 174.8 cm; p = 0.85), this difference being relevant from a practical point of view (d = -0.660 [Moderate]). Conclusions. Hamstring extensibility does not directly influence the physical performance assessed by the AFB in high school students.
