Resumo
Th is panoramic study aims to summarize the main controversies about the viability of the public pension system. Th e instability of the labor market, the low birth rates and the aging of the population constitute a scenario that is not very encouraging for the sustainability of the pension system. Important reforms have been undertaken, the most intense came into eff ect in 2013 including both parametric and structural adjust- ments. However, these reforms are insuffi cient for the sustainability of the pension system. Finally, the paper presents some proposals and measures to improve the current system and other alternatives to the public distribution system
