Resumo

After their forced conversion on 1501, the Moorish community of the Kingdom of Castille faces a complex process of cultural assimilation required by the Crown, in which stands out, because of its visibility, the prohibition of Arabic or “algarabía”. References to said language, specially to that of the Moorish minority, are continuous, as Arabic is thoroughly identified with Islam and its conservation with the absence of the assimilation that the Castillian Crown pursued. Therefore, we study the language as one of the more evident distinguishing features of this group, for its symbolic nature, that translates to their writing and their proper names.
