Since its establishment after the rebellion of Mudejars in 1266 and the resulting implementation of the Castilian dominion over the lands of the Kingdom of Murcia, the Murcia-Granada border has the most relevant head the city of Lorca. Two sectors relied on this city: the south, facing the Grenadines spaces of Vera and Mojacar, and the north, facing the region whose closest reference was Velez Blanco. In this area is where the fortress of Xiquena, advance of the kingdom of Granada against Lorca, was located when it was under Velez jurisdiction, and for this reason, Lorca vanguard against Velez Blanco after being conquered by the Castillians commanded by Alfonso Yáñez Fajardo and Martin Fernandez Pinero, in 1433. Around this fortress, there will be an intense human activity, close to the frontier world and the peculiarities of a territory like that.
